All KS2 year groups will have access to these four instrument packages:

This means that if you want to play guitar; keyboard or piano; recorder or violin, you can have some fun over the next few weeks learning these instruments at home.

Each year group will also have their own music units aimed at their particular age range:

Year 6

'Plastic' allows to you to become familiar with the features of rap music, and eventually you can write your own rap, with a focus on raising awareness of the issue of plastic waste.

Also, there is a really exciting 'Encore' unit, very similar to the Y5 version, which will allow you to create your own music using a music tool which is a bit like Garageband. There is an introductory video first so you know how to use it.

Year 5

Year 5, this is a really exciting 'Encore' unit, which will allow you to create your own music using a music tool which is a bit like Garageband. There is an introductory video first so you know how to use it.

Not only that, but you can sing and rap along to your favourite music tracks like 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air' and 'Livin' on a Prayer!'

'Dancing in the Street' is a music unit based on Motown, which includes Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Smoky Robinson. When you have finished singing and dancing round the room, play along on your recorder or have a go at composing your own tunes, using the online musical tool, to a backing track of 'Dancing in the Street' by Martha and the Vandellas.

 Year 4

'Blackbird' is a unit of music based on the Beatles, with a particular emphasis on a track Paul McCartney wrote during the Civil Right's Movement, called 'Blackbird', about a black woman, in support of the Black Power Movement.

Children will also be able to play warm up games using pulse (the beat which you clap or tap your foot to) and rhythms (long and short notes). There will also be a chance to improvise (make up your own musical patterns) and also to compose their own tune alongside the backing music to 'Blackbird' using the interactive music tool.

The next unit, Encore, is aimed at Y4 children, and focuses on rhythm, using an interactive rhythm grid to explore, copy and create their own rhythms. There is also a focus on two arrangements of the same piece of music - 'Greensleeves', believed to have written by Henry VIII, and 'Fantasia on Greensleeves' by Ralph Vaughn Williams.

Year 3

They will also explore styles of music which use different languages.

Year 1
