Nursery Safeguarding and Attendance

Nursery Safeguarding and  Attendance

At Cradle Hill our safeguarding processes, policy and attendance management are the same in our Nursery provision as within our school.

More details about our safeguarding policy can be accessed here Cradle Hill Community Primary School - Policies

Our Nursery children, as with our school aged children, benefit from a safe, secure and inclusive environment. Kindness  and respect are expected everyday. All our children will always be greeted by a staff member who knows them well. We believe that strong relationships with children, staff, parents, carer and the wider community will lead to happy and engaged children, achieving their full potential.

Please pass any messages you have onto that staff member, who will always share the message where necessary and with their Key Worker. All our Nursery children are supported by a Key Worker who works closely with the child and will meet parents/carers at twice annually parent/carer consultation sessions.

Our Office staff are always available from 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday so do feel free to contact them or make an appointment to speak in more detail to your child's Key Worker or a member of our Safeguarding Team throughout the school year.

As part of our PSHE and Safeguarding curriculum, we talk to all children about how to be safe; be this playing safely with peers, developing their safe social skills and how to use equipment safely.  We work closely with the HALO team to offer wider safety information to all our families and children.
If you have a welfare or safeguarding concern, then do speak to any member of our staff; we are all trained to listen carefully, record your concerns and report to one of our Safeguarding Leads. If you would prefer to speak directly to a Safeguarding Lead (DSL), please do email them directly or pop into the Office where a meeting/call back can be organised.
Our team of DSLs are:

Mrs Holly Stonehouse (Asst Headteacher/SENCO/DSL)

Mrs Andrea Keith (Headteacher/DDSL)

Mrs Ellie Jones (Deputy Headteachers/DDSL) -*currently on maternity leave

Mrs Jill Hanby (Safeguarding and Attendance Officer/DDSL)

Designated Safeguarding Leads (ID 1099)

 Nursery Attendance

We expect all our Nursery children to attend all sessions. The only reason for non-attendance should be illness. If your child is too ill to attend Nursery, please report this via our absence line or use Arbor to report directly. Please do provide detailed reasons  behind your child's absence/illness, this is to ensure we can closely monitor any bugs/illness in the school environment and report these accordingly.

For any other absence reasons, please do check in with your child's Nursery Key Worker or contact our Attendance Officer for more information.
Our Nursery hours and funded session timings can all be found on our website. Sessions must be booked in advance and Parental Declarations must be received ahead of your child joining our Nursery if you are using Government funding.
If your child doesn't attend Nursery and we have no further information, we will always aim to make contact with you on the first day of their absence. This is to ensure a clear record of your child's absence and to ensure that any support is offered and put in place. Please do be mindful of Government funding requirements around your child's funded Nursery place, prolonged or excessive absence could put your child's Nursery funding at risk.  More information about ESCC funded nursery spaces and eligibility can be found here: How to get free childcare | East Sussex County Council or Best Start in Life - Best Start in Life

Please do remember that all staff are here to work together to ensure your child has the best possible start on their educational journey. Please do contact us about any concerns or worries that you may have, there is always someone available.
