Cradle Hill Community Primary School

Protected Characteristics

All schools should be able to demonstrate that no form of discrimination is tolerated and that pupils show respect for those who share the protected characteristics.
The characteristics that are protected by the Equality Act 2010 are:
  • age
  • disability
  • gender reassignment
  • marriage or civil partnership (in employment only)
  • pregnancy and maternity
  • race
  • religion or belief
  • sex
  • sexual orientation.

At Cradle Hill, the protected characteristics are on display in all classrooms throughout the school and many common areas. We ensure that our children are given opportunities to develop age-appropriate knowledge of the protected characteristics and a deeper understanding through a well-planned and delivered curriculum.  They are mainly showcased through our PSHE/RSHE learning, but also appear in Geography, History, Science, Religious Education and Reading.

We believe that children should be able to recognise themselves and their circumstances so they can see their lived experiences validated and valued.
