Cradle Hill Community Primary School

New Outside Classroom is OPEN!

On Friday, 1st March, Cradle Hill opened a new outside classroom and quiet area, aptly named ‘Atlantis’.

The opening was attended by Seaford Town Crier, Peter White, Seaford Rotary representatives, members of the Community Rail Partnership alongside our own PTFA. In totality they fundraised the amazing total of £35,000!

Areas of Atlantis have also been funded by the Human Nature Grant, Focus Foundation Grant, Seaford Rotary and the Southeast Communities Rail Partnership, who donated in loving memory of Jon Freeman, an ex-Seaford Mayor and Cradle Hill Governor.

Back in 2022, our School Parliament asked how playtime could be improved; the majority voted for ‘the introduction of a quiet area’. This led to a great project, including child-led designs; overseen by the School Parliament and Y4 Teacher, Mrs Elphick with support from across the school.

The School Parliament selected the best designs and working with Pentagon Play came up with the beautiful design below.

We are lucky enough to have a wonderfully supportive PTFA who have heavily supported this project and done a great job in fundraising and contacting grant providers. Children even ran 24 miles in 24 hours for sponsorship; an epic feat!

Our new area includes an outside classroom, providing shelter for children/staff, seating and little meeting areas that have allowed many of our children to start their own lunchtime groups. From Unicorn Club to Chess Club, Atlantis now hosts a wide range of child-led activities.

We had a lovely afternoon celebrating the new area with local dignitaries, our School Parliament and club leaders. Thankfully, the weather held so we didn’t need to huddle in the outside classroom, but instead made use of all the space available to us.

Thank you to all who contributed and supported in both the design and funding of this great area that will be much used now and in the future by our children.
