Meet the Governors

Heather Baldwin Chair of Full Governing Body (Co-Opted Governor)

I am a born and bred Seafordian. I am married with two adult sons and currently two cats! I trained as a teacher and went on to become a primary Head Teacher. I have always been fascinated to develop my understanding of how children learn and I am still keen to continue learning. To this end I gained a Master’s Degree looking into how best to support children with additional and different needs. Being allowed to be a Governor at Cradle Hill means I can continue to use and develop the skills I have.

Sue Fears (Co-Opted Governor)
I have been a Governor in East Sussex for almost 11 years.  In May 2013 I joined Cradle Hill Governing Body and in September 2013 became Chair of Governors.  I work at a Primary School in Brighton where I am the Designated Person for Safeguarding and support families and pupils.  I am very proud to be the Chair of Governors of a really good school and firmly believe that every child should receive a good education, enjoy school and reach their full potential.

Andy Stiles (Parent Governor)

I am a parent of two children, one child who attends Cradle Hill in Key Stage 2. I have an active role in a local children’s football team and act as Treasurer.   I have been a parent governor at Cradle Hill since December 2013 and am the Vice Chair of the Leadership and Management Committee.  I play an active role in the school assisting within my role in Leadership and Management reviewing the schools budgets and assisting the leadership team with the development of the school, taking it forward to meet the goals set by continually reviewing outcomes against objectives throughout the year which work towards closing any gaps in education that are identified.

Maurice Waller  (Co-Opted Governor)

I have been a governor of Cradle Hill Primary School since the summer of 2013. I am a retired Head Teacher with more than forty years’ experience in primary education and I am keen to contribute to the welfare of the pupils at this school in every way I can.

Robert Gower (Co-Opted Governor)

Robert (BOB) Gower:-Born at St Albans in 1943 but moved to Wandsworth after 3 months, where I lived for a further 37 years before moving to Seaford in 1981, when I married Pauline. I have always considered Seaford as a town by the sea and not a seaside town and have enjoyed the community spirit of the town and the friendship of all of the residents.

I had a career in Banking with Nat West for 33 years before retiring aged 50 and entering into a new career as a Financial Adviser for a further 20 years. Whilst in Wandsworth a ran for 20 years several youth clubs on a voluntary basis and was a fund raiser for the then named Royal Hospital & Home for Incurables Putney for a similar period of time.

In May 1999 I was elected a Town Councillor and enjoyed 4 years serving the community being Chairman of the Finance Committee for 2 years. I played club cricket for 40 years before retiring aged 57.

In 2000 I joined the Governors of Cradle Hill, as the Towns’ representative, since 2003 I have continued serving as a Community Governor and consider it to be an honour to be a Governor of such a wonderful Community Spirited School as Cradle Hill.

Paul Owen (Co-Opted Governor)

I have served as a Community governor since 2007 until 2011 at Denton Community Primary and moved over to Cradle Hill as my youngest son attended Cradle Hill School from 2002 until 2009.  I am based at St Leonard’s and St Luke’s churches in Seaford and bring informal pastoral support for staff, governors and pupils.

Charlie Grimble (Local Authority Governor)
                                                                       Term: 08/11/2016 to 09/11/2020
I retired from Beckenham, to Seaford with my wife in January 2016, after a career in social housing with LB Lambeth and a large regional housing association. My involvement in education included Chairing the PTA at our 3 children’s primary school, and comprehensive secondary school. I was Chair of Governors for 14 years at the secondary school and saw it transform from a state boys school with grant -maintained status with 6 forms of intake and a 6th form of 250 pupils, through to a standalone academy with a 7 form entry and a co-educational 6th form of 650 pupils. The school maintained its ‘Outstanding’ assessment from Ofsted throughout my tenure, and excelled in sport drama and music as well as in the academic curriculum. I oversaw a £38m complete rebuild under the 'Building Schools for the Future’ programme. I am particularly proud of the inclusive education we were able to offer, supported by a specialist facility on site for pupils with special educational support needs. I recognise that the budgetary climate is getting much tighter over recent years, and that will require creativity in how we work with other local schools to provide the best opportunities for our pupils and staff.

I am a parent of two children at Cradle Hill one in year two and the other in year five. I have been a governor at the school since November 2013 and serve on the Curriculum and Leadership and Management committees.  I am passionate that every child has the best education possible and therefore as a parent governor feel it is my responsibility to represent the parents of Cradle Hill asking the leadership of the school the right questions and obtain the right answers to ensure all the children get the right education.

It is a privilege and a pleasure to be the Acting Headteacher of Cradle Hill CP School. I have worked at the school in a wide range of roles since December 2006. My husband and I chose Cradle Hill for our children to attend and it remains a priority for me to make it the best school possible for the community I live and work within. As a busy mum with two teenage children, family time is precious; I simply love spending time with my family whether walking along the beautiful Seaford beach, occasionally skiing down stunning mountains, riding a bike or standing next to a football pitch or netball court watching my children.
